Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has filed a lawsuit at the Civil Court seeking over MVR 13 million from Mega Maldives Airlines over unpaid taxes and fees.
MIRA filed the lawsuit against Mega Maldives Airlines to seek unpaid Airport Taxes and Fees (ATF) of MVR13.1 million and Withholding Tax of MVR 63,000 . The case was accepted by the court upon filing last week.
Whilst MIRA had filed a case at Civil Court, the court had ordered Mega Maldives Airlines to pay over MVR 600,000 in pending salary for 24 of the company’s employees.
Mega Maldives, early 2018, decided to entervoluntary liquidation after the company temporarily suspended operations last may in a move to restructure the company and its shareholder configuration to salvage it from bankruptcy.
According to aviator.aero website Mega Maldives had decided to liquidate the company after it failed to secure an investor or finances to restart operations. The shareholders chose local firm Wisham & Co, to act as liquidator in accordance with the Maldivian law.
Mega Maldives first started its operations in 2010, while travelling to 50 destinations the airline had carried 1.1 million passengers.
