The government of Maldives aims to open 24 resorts in 2018, most of which include well-known brands worldwide. As such, the following luxury resorts are set to open this year:
1. Sirru Fenfushi
Developed on Sh. Gaakoshibee, Sirru Fen Fushi is a 120 luxury all-villa resort featuring country’s first Balinese-inspired Bamboo Bar. The USD 100million investment will open in April 2018 and will have the world’s first underwater sculpture museum, completed by Jason DeCaires Taylor.
2. Lux* North Male’
Following the successful re-launch of LUX* South Ari Atoll in September 2016, LUX* will be opening its second resort, LUX* North Malé Atoll with 67 double-storey penthouse residences, five restaurants and bars, an expansive LUX* Me spa complex, and comprehensive diving and water sports facilities.
3. Baglioni Maldives
Italian-owned Baglioni Resort Maldives, located on Maagau in Dhaalu Atoll, will open its doors in spring 2018. The 96-villa resort’s elegant Italian design will be complemented with the Baglioni Spa, which along with a yoga pavilion, will offer guests a deeply relaxing experience. The resort will feature three presidential villas of 870 square meters each.
4. Carpe Diem Beach Resort & Spa
Set to open in spring 2018, Carpe Diem Beach Resort & Spa will be the first resort opening for Carpe Diem Maldives, one of the only hospitality brands in the Maldives to offer both liveaboard cruises and resort stays. Located in Raa Huravalhi, the resort will be home to 115 Pool Villas, a spa, a selection of restaurants, and a private water park of inflatable slides.
5. Kudadoo Private Island
Kudadoo Private Island by Hurawalhi will begin welcoming visitors to its shores early 2018, and is predicted to be among the most exciting openings in the country this year. Designed by the internationally renowned architect Yuji Yamasaki, the adults-only resort will encompass just 15 luxurious villas.
Guests have the option of dining at the exclusive restaurant on Kudadoo Private Island or taking the boat over to Hurawalhi Island Resort to dine at 5.8 Undersea Restaurant—which is the world’s largest all-glass restaurant under the sea—the sea-view Aquarium Restaurant and international Canneli Restaurant.
6. Pullman Maldives Maamuta
Accor Hotels will manage the 120-villa Pullman Maldives Maamutaa Resort located on a one – resort island which is slated to open in 2018. The upscale Pullman Maldives Maamutaa Resort will be one of their first two hotel developments in the Maldives.
7. Centara Grand Muthaafushi Resort & Spa
Centara Hotels & Resorts signed a new hotel management agreement for Centara Grand Muthaafushi Resort & Spa Maldives. Located in the Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve, Centara Grand Muthaafushi Resort & Spa Maldives would be the fourth beach resort managed by Centara Hotels and Resorts – one of the leading Thai hospitality groups.
The property comprises of 24 beach villas, 77 water villas, an array of international restaurants including an underwater restaurant, a floating cinema, a dedicated Thai spa, a fitness center, and other facilities
8. Hardrock Hotel Maldives
Opening as part of the Emboodhoo Lagoon project, the first integrated resort destination in the Maldives, Hard Rock Hotel Maldives will boast 178 expensive guestrooms including family suites, beach villas and one and two-bedroom overwater villas.
Guests will be able to enjoy exclusive brand offerings and amenities including The Sound of Stay music program, offering complimentary use of Fender guitars and Crosley record players for in-room jam sessions, as well as a renowned full-service Rock Spa®, a Rock Shop® selling all brand merchandise, Roxity Kids Club®, and Teen Spirit® Club.
9. Gran Meliá Maldives
Gran Meliá Maldives, located in Thaa Kalhudiyafushi will offer 95 private villas, including 100 rooms, as well as three restaurants, a bar and café, spa, leisure centre and several retail shops.
10. Waldorf Astoria Maldives
Hilton’s traditional luxury brand, Waldorf Astoria will be opening Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi Resort in early 2019. The resort will have 138 beach and overwater villas, ranging from one to three bedroom villas and a four-bedroom presidential suite, carefully positioned to guarantee exclusivity and privacy for the guests while providing them with unsurpassed views of the ocean. Each villa will be equipped with a private outdoor pool, jacuzzi and lounge deck area.
