Cocoon Maldives has introduced eco-friendly bottled water.
The new initiative was launched under the banner campaign of “Drink local Water and Let’s Go Green,” which is part of an ongoing commitment to reduce the resort’s carbon footprint.
“Maldives endeavours to be eco-friendly and strives to protect the rich marine life of the Maldives,” General Manager Ram Bhoyroo was quoted in a statement, as saying.
The water bottling plant at Cocoon Maldives began its operation this March, producing fresh water from salt water sourced from the sea. The bottled water goes through a unique crystal purification system, giving it a very pleasant lighter taste.
The water bottling plant will produce around 3,000 litres of drinking water everyday, including both still and sparkling varieties. The water is served to guests in glass bottles which are then returned to the bottling plant for washing and re-filling — a process that will save about 350,000 plastic bottles each year.
Cocoon Maldives, located in Ookolhufinolhu Island in the northern Lhaviyani atoll, blends the best of Italian design with the Maldives’ stunning natural beauty. The five-star resort, which officially opened in March 2016, houses 150 villas that are exclusively designed by Lago, one of Italy’s finest design firms.
The resort, accessible by a 40-minute scenic seaplane flight from the main Velana International Airport, features three restaurants and two bars offering a variety of cuisines from around the world and romantic dining experiences.
The Cube Spa at Cocoon Maldives, meanwhile, is located in the heart of the island to ensure maximum privacy and intimacy, and offers variety of relaxing and rejuvenating treatments with qualified masseurs from Bali.
