The Maldives is getting closer to achieving its tourist arrival target for the current year.
According to statistics, Maldives has welcomed a total of 1,388,044 tourists so far in the Golden Jubilee Year of tourism. Compared to the 1,055,924 arrivals recorded last year for the same period, this year’s arrivals show an increase of 31.5%.
As of October 27, this year, the total number of tourists visiting the Maldives has surpassed that of the entire year 2021.
Last October also marked the highest number of 153,737 tourist arrivals in the history of Maldivian tourism. The Maldives, which is commemorating 50 years of tourism, has not experienced a spike in visitors in a single month until now, even in the record-breaking year of 2019.
Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) Chief Executive officer and Managing Director Thoyyib Mohamed predicts that the Maldives would reach its target of 1.6 million tourist arrivals by early December.
India now leads as the top market for Maldives tourism, accounting for over 14.0 % of the market, with Russia following in second with a 12.3 % market share and the United Kingdom takes a close third place with 10.9% of arrivals as of 9th November 2022. Other top markets include Germany, Italy, the USA, France, Spain, Saudi Arabia, and Switzerland.
According to the Ministry of Tourism’s most recent statistics, there are 1,196 accommodation facilities open this year, including resorts, guesthouses, safari vessels, and hotels. The overall operational capacity is presently 59,335 beds.
The average stay of tourists in the Maldives is 8.1 days.
